Hello :) Here's my latest project that I finished today. It's Simplicity New Look Pattern 6872 View E. I made it out of silk dupioni fabric that I washed before I cut it on a handwash cycle in my washer, then I let it air dry. After that, I had to iron it. I did notice that after washing it that the color faded a lot and so did some of the sheen. However, on the plus side, it can now get wet in the future without leaving spots. I guess if I didn't wash it, I would have had to be really careful about getting it wet (which is almost impossible with my steam iron that leaks). I chose the skirt pattern because it had a casual look to it, almost like an apron which I thought was adorable. The material spiced it up a bit, but I kept it from looking too fancy by putting the grey zip up jacket on top of it. I'm pleased with the results.

Kwik Sew Pattern 3413 6/3/09

I am a new sewer and have only made two other things that you can wear...so this blog is to document my progress and journey...This weekend I made this skirt and it was Kwik Sew Pattern 3413. I put a wide belt over it that I bought at Urban Outfitters a while back and just a ruffled sleeveless blouse that I tucked in to it. The skirt is shown pulled up much higher than it is meant to hang, it actually sits on my hips...but I was trying to mimic a trend we have going on now. Somehow I ended up having tropical shoes that I bought at Nordstrom last year that actually match the color theme! The material was from Amy Butler's line...although it was really heavy and looking back I might have used a lighter fabric...but one good thing about it's weight is that I can wear it in the winter...(yes, I will totally rock bright colors in winter ;) Downside to it's weight is it can look bulky.
